Our Interim Pastor - Roger Henning

Pastor Roger Henning was installed as Interim Pastor on August 3, 2008.

Pastor Henning was born in Lancaster County, NE, on the family farm, on October 25, 1946. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Crete, NE.

His early schooling included grade school at St. John’s Lutheran School, two years of high school at Crete Public Schools, two years of high school and graduation from Concordia High School, Seward, NE, in 1965, and four years of college and graduation from Concordia Teachers College, NE, in 1969.

While attending Concordia Teachers College, he met Mary Jo Yost of Richfield, MN. They were engaged in the fall of 1968 and married at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN, on July 26, 1969.

This union has been blessed with three children, each of whom is married, with a total of seven grandchildren. They are: Sarah and Mike Koebernick, Jackson, Samuel and Jonathan, of Lincoln, NE; Jon and Paige Henning, Summers and Mae, of Iowa City, IA; and Joanne and Mark Nierman, Caleb and Joshua, of Albuquerque, NM.

Mary Jo and Roger served as teachers, Roger in Michigan and Wisconsin, Mary Jo in Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska and Missouri. Both of them have received masters’ degrees.

After serving as a parish assistant and youth counselor in Wisconsin, Roger attended Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and was ordained in 1986. He has served as pastor in congregations in Illinois, Nebraska and Missouri.
